Description
Diana sent the Caledonian boar to ravage the lands of Aetolia in revenge for the neglect show to her by King Oeneus. The type of reverse is supposed by Havercamp to refer to the great hunting parties with which in 734 (B.C. 20), the birthday of Augustus was so magnificently celebrated.
Obverse: GETA before, III VIR behind, diademed & draped bust of Diana right
Reverse: C HOSIDI C F, wild boar of Calydon right, pierced by spear and attacked by dog
Diameter: 18 mm
Silver plated lead free pewter, made in the USA
This coin is stamped on the reverse with the word copy.
Packaged in a coin collecting flip with the description of coin printed on flip insert.
