The first circulated coin by the new American federal government.
The legends on this coin are credited to Benjamin Franklin and are sometimes referred to as the Franklin Cent.
Obverse: FUGIO is Latin for “I Fly” the sun and the hour sundial were to convey time. So Franklin’s message was that time flies by, so you should take care of your business.
Reverse: 13 Rings representing the original thirteen states around the coin with the inscription UNITED STATES / WE ARE ONE at the center.
