American Post-Colonial Massachusetts Coinage

1788 Massachusetts Half Cent Replica Coin

On October 17, 1786 the Massachusetts General Court pasted an act to establish a mint. The council established that the design would incorporate the figure of an Indian with a bow and arrow and a star on one side, with the word “Commonwealth”. The reverse was to have a spread eagle with words Massachusetts and the date.

The Massachusetts 1787 and 1788 cents and half cents were the first coins bearing the denomination cent as established by Congress.

Diameter: 24 mm

Copper plated lead free fine pewter.
