Ptolemy III was the eldest son of Ptolemy II and his first wife, Arsinoe I. During his rule, the Ptolemy Kingdom reached its apogee as an international power. Early in his rule he invaded Syria (the Seleukid Empire) to avenge the murder of his sister Berenike. He occupied Antioch and reached Babylon.
