Description
1794 Talbot, Allum & Lee Cent without New York
William Talbot, William Allum, and James Lee had an import business at 241 Water Street in lower New York City. They had a large number of coppers made and placed into circulation to advertise their business.
On the obverse of these copper tokens dated 1794 and 1795 is the image of the standing goddess of Liberty with a bale representing commerce with the inscription LIBERTY & COMMERCE.
This 1794 version has a fully rigged sailing ship with the inscription TALBOT ALLUM & LEE, ONE CENT.
