Emperor Vitellius 69 A.D. AE Roman Imperial Sestertius Coin
Aulus Vitellius was born in 14 A.D. He was the third emperor of the Year of the Four Emperors (Galba, Otho, Vitellius, and Vespasian). After the suicide of Emperor Nero in A.D. 68 there followed a brief period of civil war. This was the first Roman civil war since Marc Anthony’s death in 30 B.C. Between June of A.D. 68 and December of A.D. 69 there was a successive rise and fall of Galba, Otho and Vitellius until final accession of Vespasian, the first ruler of the Flavian Dynasty.
