Antigonus II Gonatas 277-239 B.C. AR Tetradrachm
Macedonian ruler who solidified the position of the Antigonid dynasty in Macedon after a long period defined by anarchy and chaos and acquired fame for his victory over the Gauls who had invaded the Balkans.
Obverse: Head of Pan left, in the center of a Macedonian shield decorated with seven eight-pointed stars within double crescents.
Reverse: BASILEWS ANTIGONOU, Athena Alkidemos walking left, brandishing thunderbolt in her right hand, holding shield decorated with aegis on her left arm; crested helmet to inner left, monogram to inner right.
Diameter: 29 mm
Silver-plated, with hand-finished patina, made in the USA.
Packaged in a coin collecting flip with the description of coin printed on flip insert.
