Carthage AR Tetradrachm Period: Early 4th cent. B.C.  Siculo-Punic issues of the Carthaginians in Sicily, 4th-3rd century BC. (After the First Punic War.)

Carthage was a great maritime trading city that was founded by Phoenician colonists from Tyre in the 8 century B.C. From the 6th to the 3rd century B.C. the Carthaginians dominated trade in the western Mediterranean.

Obverse: Date Palm with fruit, in Punic letters, Mahanat, ‘the camp’

Reverse: Free horse, crowned by Nike, Punic letters beneath, Karta Hadashat, “new city of Carthage”.

Diameter: 27 mm

Material:  Silver plated fine pewter

Made in the USA
Packaged in a coin collecting flip with the description of coin printed on flip insert.
