Description
William Hood from England, obtained a patent from King George I in 1722 to make coins for Ireland and the American colonies.
The Hibernia coinage was struck for circulation in Ireland and also could be found circulating in the American colonies.
Obverse: GEORGIUS DEI GRATIA REX, head of King George facing right.
Reverse: HIBERNIA 1722, seated figure with harp to the left.
