Description
In July 1792, the first U.S. Mint coins were struck for distribution at the request of President George Washington at a private facility, the newly established US Mint’s buildings, and machinery were not yet ready. The half disme was struck under the guidance of newly hired Mint personnel at this private facility. Secretary of State Thomas Jefferson recorded receiving 1500 of these coins from there.
