Augustus’ adopted sons, Gaius and Lucius, are featured on the reverse of this coin and were the intended successors to the emperor. Unfortunately, they died before he did.

Obverse: CAESAR AVGVSTVS DIVI F PATER PATRIAE. laureate head right
Reverse: AVGVSTI F COS DESIG PRINC IVVENT, C L CAESARES below, Gaius & Lucius standing front, each with a hand resting on a round shield, a spear, & in the field above, a simpulum right & lituus

Diameter: 18 mm
