PLOTINA, wife of Trajan
Plotina, born Pompeia Plotina around 70 AD, was the wife of the Roman Emperor Trajan. Known for her virtue, wisdom, and influence, Plotina played a significant role in Roman society during her husband’s reign from 98 AD until he died in 117 AD.
Her marriage to Trajan, who ruled from 98 AD to 117 AD, was marked by mutual respect and collaboration. Plotina was instrumental in ensuring a peaceful succession by promoting Hadrian, who would later become Emperor. She was deeply involved in philosophical circles, maintaining close relationships with many prominent philosophers of her time.
Plotina died around 121 AD. After her death, Hadrian deified her, reflecting the deep respect and honor she garnered during her lifetime.
