Description
Kings of Bithynia, Prusias II Cynegos. 182-149 BC.
Prusias II Cynegos was a king of Bithynia who ruled from 182 to 149 BC. He succeeded his father, Prusias I, and continued engaging in the Hellenistic period’s complex political and military dynamics. His reign was marked by conflicts with neighboring states, including Pergamon and Byzantium, as well as involvement in the Roman Republic’s expansion into the eastern Mediterranean. Prusias II is known for his efforts to strengthen Bithynia through alliances and military campaigns. However, his reign eventually ended in conflict with his own son, Nicomedes II, who succeeded him. Despite these challenges, Prusias II maintained Bithynia’s position as a significant regional power during his rule.
