Son of Ptolemy I and Berenice, Ptolemy II co-ruled with his father for two years before the death of Ptolemy I. This enabled a smooth transition of power. Ptolemy II was married to Arsinoe I daughter of Lysimachus of Thrace but after she was convicted of plotting against him and exiled from Egypt Ptolemy II then married his sister Arsinoe II.
